tribute bands
   Described by some as a postmodern musical development, the tribute band is a peculiar hybrid of fandom and cabaret culture. Usually taking their name from some aspect of their idol’s work, tribute bands tend to perform note-perfect renditions of the band they are imitating. Stage shows and costumes, even accents, are meticulously studied and performed to audiences. Bands such as Bjorn Again (Abba), The Australian Doors and the Australian Pink Floyd all regularly perform sell out gigs. The Bootleg Beatles have achieved recognition by performing at Liverpool’s Royal Philharmonic Hall, something their illustrious predecessors failed to do. Some artists are pleased by the ‘tribute’ paid to them; Oasis copyists No Way Sis have the blessing of their idols.
